Gold Pans

By: Dan Hodgins

Gold pans are a tool used by recreational placer miners to extract gold from sands and gravels. Gold panning is the act of mining for gold using hand methods that include a gold pan. Many rivers and creeks in Canada, The United States, Australia, New Zealand and beyond contain placer gold that can be recovered by panning. Gold mining with a pan is typically considered slow and inefficient as a production method, and is mainly used for testing, sampling or recreational purposes.
